Description:
After landing in Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will drive 40 km to the capital, Windhoek. Check into your hotel and rest your jet-lagged legs. A city or township tour in the afternoon is a good introduction to Namibia and its history and people.
The world-famous Etosha National Park is your next destination. Take a leisurely drive through the park, stopping at waterholes along the way to look at birds and animals, and to observe their behaviour.
Day 3 will bring an ethnic experience and unforgettable visit to the Himba village, learning about their fascinating way of life. The Himba are a tribe of nomadic pastoralist who inhabit the Kaokoland area of Namibia. The Himba have clung to their traditions and the beautiful Himba women are noted for their intricate hairstyles and traditional jewellery.
Travel to Namibia’s first ever World Heritage Site, Twyfelfontein. This are hosts Africa’s largest and most important concentration of rock engravings in Africa.
Spend the day in the coastal town of Swakopmund with its distinct German character dating back to the colonial era of the previous century. Swakopmund is Namibia’s adventure mecca. This is your opportunity to explore the dunes on a quad bike, skydive from a light aircraft, or whizz down the dunes on a sand board.
Travel your way southwards between the sea and the dunes to Walvis Bay. Walvis Bay Lagoon is a birder’s paradise where vast number of flamingos foraging for food in the shallows. Sandwich Harbour is your next stop where sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breath-taking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered!
Just outside Walvis Bay is Dune 7, the highest sand mass in the area. Drive through the Namib-Naukluft Park and overnight at the foot of the petrified dunes. A sunset drive in the dune landscape of the central Namib is an absolute must.
Drive between the red high dunes to Sossusvlei, entering the park at Sesriem. Take a walk up and over the high dunes to visit Dead Vlei, a ghostly pan of cracked white clay featuring ancient skeletons of camel-thorn trees.
